Opening Ceremony of International Students for 2019 Fall Class

On the afternoon of October 9, the opening ceremony of international students of the 2019 fall class of our school was held in the Academic Lecture Hall of Linhai Campus. Professor Chen Guangting, President of the university, delivered a speech; Yang Guisheng, a member of the Party Committee and deputy director of the Public Security Bureau of Linhai City, attended the meeting. Wang Aiqin, deputy dean of the International School, presided over the ceremony.

On behalf of the school, Chen Guangting extended a warm welcome to the arrival of international students. He said that the 144 freshmen who participated in the opening ceremony came from five countries of Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Laos, all of which are countries along the “Belt and Road”, and historically have had frequent and close exchanges with China. President Chen introduced Taizhou's long history and the overview information of the school. He pointed out that Taizhou was one of the cradles of the eastern route of the ancient "Maritime Silk Road" and the birthplace of the Chinese Hehe culture; with pleasant climate, beautiful scenery, and long culture, the international students were expected to explore and appreciate all these charms; economically developed, Taizhou is active in commerce; schools are adapted to local conditions, deeply implement the integration of industry and education, strengthen cooperation between schools and enterprises, and set up the first "International Student Practice Base of Taizhou University" in the local listed company Wenling Leo Group to build a high quality platform for international students' practice and employment.

In the end, President Chen expressed his expectations for the new international students with five "A": adapt, aim, assistant, aggressive and achievement. He hoped that the students would integrate into Taizhou University as soon as possible, set goals in learning, and be a planned person. He also hoped them to improve themselves in cooperation and collaboration, achieve a brand new self in a limited time abroad, learn profession well, and become a friendly messenger to promote exchanges between countries.

Zheng Lijun welcomed the international students on behalf of the School of Humanities. She said that the School of Humanities has rich experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. With the help of teachers and classmates, she believed that the international students would have a bumper harvest. Russian student Wang Man (Kseniia Boialskiia) spoke on behalf of all the freshmen, sharing her feelings about studying and living in Linhai this month, expressing her expectations for the future and blessings to all international students.

After the opening ceremony, a lecture on the "first lesson of the school" was held. Police officer Ye Yuhui, former deputy commander of Linhai Entry-Exit Management Brigade, police officer Xie Daohui, political instructor of the Anti-drug Brigade, police officer Shao Jian, squadron leader of Xunqiao Traffic Police Squadron, specially introduced China’s immigration laws, Anti-drug regulations and traffic safety knowledge. The lively and meticulous interpretation and presentation inspired all international students deeply.

The heads of the Linhai Campus Comprehensive Office, the International School, the Security Office and relevant departments of Linhai City participated.

This school year, the number of international students in our school has continued to expand. The total number of international students at the school is close to 300. They are mainly educated students and are located in the two campuses of Linhai and Jiaojiang. Their education involves Chinese language and literature, tourism management, international economics and trade, computer science and technology, civil engineering, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, pharmaceutical engineering and other majors. They come to study in our school, which will further enrich the campus culture and effectively promote the internationalization of our school's education.
